Mylestone Equine Rescue

Making a difference in lives of abused and negelected horses since 1994.

Mylestone Equine Rescue is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit horse rescue located in the Warren County area that’s dedicated to ensuring good homes to abused horses by providing rehabilitation and adoption services. The poor economy has led to an increase in equine neglect cases, and currently the farm has 36 horses in their care.

The majority of the horses at Mylestone Equine Rescue are lame. Some of them are older lesson horses, who were no longer wanted once they couldn’t earn their keep. The farm also takes in many starvation/cruelty cases from the SPCA and animal control.

Mylestone Equine Rescue’s goal is to adopt the horses into new homes, but if qualified homes can’t be found, they will provide sanctuary for the horses for the rest of their lives.

It was important for the founders of Mylestone to be able to find a way for the horses to give back to the community—even though they couldn’t be ridden. They have coordinated with several schools with special needs students who come and brush the horses. Currently they’re working with an adult school that comes once a week all year long, and then during the school year, they also work with a local high school for kids with special needs.

“We are very grateful to the devoted farriers, vets, and volunteers who help us daily with the horses,” says Susankelly Thompson, of Mylestone Equine Rescue. “We feel very blessed to be able to make a difference in the lives of the horses and our surrounding communities.”
