Heaven Can Wait Equine Sanctuary for Healing and Learning

Helping Horses So That They Can Help Others

Located in San Miguel, California, the Heaven Can Wait Equine Sanctuary for Healing and Learning is a 501(c)(3) non-profit horse rescue, healing, and learning center that is committed to providing their rescued equine residents a safe haven where they do not starve, are not neglected, and do not go without medical care.

The sanctuary currently cares for approximately 28 rescued horses, race horses, and donkeys, with 2 horses in foster care. In fact, the grandson of Secretariat, Pair-O-Docs is located here, as are other racehorses that have been discarded and/or abused after their racing days were over.

Susan Schwartz is the hands-on owner who, along with just a few volunteers, relies on donations to feed, maintain, and provide medical aid to these wonderful animals. Along with a commitment to care for these horses, Heaven Can Wait also provides equine-assisted therapeutic activities that were developed to heal and educate a wide range of people facing many kinds of challenges. From projects to aid cancer patients and survivors to heal through interacting with the horses, as well as a reading program that encourages autistic children and others to read to the horses—with nary a correction in pronunciation—these and other programs at the sanctuary help to spread the message that these horses still have plenty of love to give.

The magic behind these equine residents is that they have found a way to forgive the bad inflicted upon them by humans in their pasts and are willing to give of themselves to the people who need non-judgmental and unconditional love to heal. It is truly inspirational to witness the resounding results of how our wonderful and happy equines help those in need. But they need your help! Please make a donation, right now!
